Blue was a Great Dane and she was given to me by my parents when she was a puppy. My mother had her mother, so I helped to deliver her and raise her. She was very shy of strangers as a young dog, but with obedience school and training she became a very dependable dog. She would go to nursing homes to visit the elderly and to church to visit the nursery classes. She loved to lay out in the back yard and sun for hours at a time. She was my buddy, she wasn't able to go everywhere with me as she got older, but she loved to go to work and sleep on her bed. She got very sick and I lost her despite all that we tried. She will always be remembered and those memories will always be treasured.
I was given my first Standard Poodle when I was 15, she was 2 1/2 years old. I trained Charity in Obedience and earned her CD. I showed her in AKC shows and also in 4-H shows, in which I was very active. I decided not to take her any farther in obedience, because she was starting to have trouble with her hips and I din't think it would be good for her to start jumping at her age. She was one of the best dogs I have ever had, very quiet and laid back, she never got upset with anyone. At 9 years old she was diagnosed with a heart defect, which I treated for a year. I lost her suddenly one night when she was 10 years old She was a great loss to me and my family.
Mingo was my first show horse and he was 16 hands tall. We bought him when he was 12 and he was a lot of horse. He was for my father to ride, but I wanted to show and so he became my horse. I showed him for about a year and he was good at home but when we were in the showring he would rear and step on me. So, I got another horse. Mingo was the horse that everyone rode in between horses or if their horse was sick. He was very good with children and gentle around them on the ground. He only needed an experienced rider at horse shows. About a year after we got him his Coffin bones in his front feet rotated, we had special shoes made for him and he laid down for 3 months. It took lots of prayer and special care to bring him around. Our parents rode him, we rode him, and the grandchildren rode him. He was a very special horse, he was always getting in trouble, knocking things over, walking through things, and stepping on our feet, but he was sweet and everyone that knew him loved him and he will forever missed.
